Investing in better mental health stability -World Mental Health Day, 2020

Mental health is a much-needed topic to discuss in these pandemic days. Everyone around the world is deprived of motivation with the global virus strike. From the poor to the rich, an employer to a job-seeker, everyone has to undergo an equal amount of pain which is caused by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Awareness about mental health needs to be raised globally since most people don’t even know what is mental health and how it can be a disaster when ignored.

There is a need to voice the importance of mental health in our daily lives. I have been blogging about mental health since I learned about it. With personal recommendations and suggestions, I have been writing about how we must treat persons who are suffering from mental illness.

Make a kind note that, mental illness doesn’t refer to madness, even if a person feels annoyed, that can be considered as mental illness too.

Acceptance

Every person deserves acceptance, we cannot let go of a person who is physically disabled, but we don’t hesitate to run away from a person who is mentally disabled.

The physical disability is seen by eyes, the pain of the victim is exposed to the public through physical appearance. On the other hand, mental disability is completely an inner emotion. It is like agony within, a depressed mind, which we cannot see with our naked eye.

Unless a person approaches us and shares his mental status, we cannot judge his/her current inner thoughts or feelings. They may appear normal and good, but inside there is a huge battle they are fighting.

People like this need acceptance, they need to be cared for, and they deserve the best advice. Sometimes, we fail to accept ourselves in some situations. Our mind constantly forces us to feel guilt over the things we have done unwillingly against ourselves. This needs to be handled with more care.

Personal care must be taken if you are feeling the same, self-acceptance comes from self-respect. There are numerous occasions where we fail to keep our self-respect and we do things abnormally to survive. Let us accept that and move on, we did that to survive and it is like a survival skill.

You may not be the person you are supposed to be at your workplace, in your family, and in your relationships. You may not be measured according to your ability and skills, but you still need to accept that. This is how we can live life happily and have a peaceful, good night’s sleep.

Action to be taken

When we realize that our friend is suffering from some kind of mental stress, it becomes our priority to stabilize the thoughts. We cannot take control over the thoughts, but we can minimize the outcome by taking action like talking more about positive things in his/her life, encouraging the person to switch to better activities, and engaging them in a good environment where the triggers of suffering may subside.

Ignoring the status of mental health will cause trouble for you and your surroundings as well. If you are unable to concentrate on self-help, then that is a perfect time that you need to open up your feelings and share them with someone else.

There are two different cases here: self–help and helping others, both can be done with the help of a strategy. Be careful not to disclose your feelings to someone who is not able to help you. Few people will create more gossip and create more nonsense. You should take action in time with your ability to identify true help.

Get inspired and be an inspiration

If we are going through tough times, it is common for us to lack a bit of inspiration. Then a person will start fetching for that little inspiration and begin a journey, in this due course, there will be misguided things like addiction to alcohol and drugs, etc. when the search goes relatively, one will end up by encountering the true inspiration.

This may be a person, a passion or a goal, a good book, whatever it is, this inspiration will assist the person to overcome the present depressed state of mind and it will provide all the necessary energy to beat the negativity out of us.

Mental Health and Depression

Depression and anxiety are the two terms that cannot be left without discussing when talking about mental health. Premature deaths are increasing in number due to depression. All ages of people are suffering from depression and searching for a way to get out of it.

Mental health should be taken care of, otherwise, we have to face some serious consequences due to slight disturbances it. When anyone is in depression their thoughts will be shifted to suicide. Here come the suicide prevention measures into action.

Effective Tips to Avoid Thoughts about Suicide

Suicidal thoughts arise from a depressed mind, when the mind doesn’t focus on a particular task, the entire focus will be shifted to the other thoughts. Positive thinking is highly capable of handling negativity by preventing life-ending thoughts from emerging from the mind.

Mostly those who are lost in reaching their goals, a recent rejection in life or love, or a failure which they had to face in life will allow the persons to think differently.

Suicidal tendencies are high in those who are unable to think twice or stand up firmly on a decision that they took earlier.

The most effective way to avoid thoughts about suicide is to have a strong determination with willpower. Anybody can fail in any attempt they make, it may be career-related, personal life, or things related to professional life, these attempts must make a person stronger and can be treated as lessons to learn.

There is no shame in admitting a mistake if committed, ending a life is a purposeless thing to do in this world. Having time-bound goals will assist more in gaining the power to fight against suicidal thoughts.

The other tip is to develop a habit of writing, if one can write about goals to be achieved and success stories then the mind relaxes for a while and gives no space for thoughts like giving up on life.

Writing goals down and taking notes of what is happening in the surroundings will turn anyone into a gem. Valuable ideas will start rolling in our minds if writing and reading are included in our daily lifestyle.

Having conversations with random people, close friends, etc. will also help to deal with depression. A depressed person always thinks about how to end that depression, if the search goes positively, it will result in a positive outcome, if the search goes in a wrong way, the negativity in the mind will start taking control.

A self-check or self-study will reveal all the truths about willpower and the strengths one has to fight bad thoughts. This self-study must include all the necessary steps to be taken like observing own attitude from time to time, behavior in public places, keeping an eye on the lack of interest in food, and other interests.
